Pretty in pink
Being the resident horsey 'expert' among my friends doesn't usually have much impact on our conversations – until recently, that is.
Suddenly they have developed a new-found interest in horses. This has not come from this summer's Olympic Games, when our event riders picked up double bronze, or even Zara Phillip's recent crashing cross-country fall.
Rather, it's all down to the appearance of Katie Price – aka Jordan – at the Horse of the Year Show last month.
I had to explain to them that Katie was there to promote her new 'KP Equestrian' range, and was not about to become the new member of 'team GB'.
But her presence at HOYS did get me thinking.
My friends are usually quite mocking of all things horsey, but suddenly they were initiating conversations about equestrian sport.
Some traditionalists are prejudiced against Katie Price's predominantly pink range and her relative lack of riding experience, but if she gets the public interested in our sport, surely that's no bad thing?
Love her or hate her, Katie brings an element of fun and glamour to riding, and has (evidently) incited discussion and debate in the horse world.
As soon as my friends realised Ms Price was bringing out a range of riding clothes, predictably they only had one question to ask: “Is there a sports bra?”
I've checked. There isn't.
