Is it too wet to spectate?

Wednesday 27 May 2009

One of my favourite past-times is talking, thinking, reading or writing about horses, especially when I can't be near one in person.

So I love meeting a newcomer to my yard, or a keen stranger at a show, as it offers me the chance to impart some of my horsey knowledge.

But is the ghastly English weather denying me this opportunity?

As a spectator at The Royal Windsor Horse Show, I noticed that the crowds were a bit thin at times – probably something to do with the on-off torrential rain we were cursed with.

Only a very keen novice would be prepared to stand in the mud, wind and rain to watch people compete.

They could probably do the same thing at home, in front of the TV, with a mug of hot chocolate – providing they have Sky, of course!

However, I did discover a few of these keen strangers at Windsor.

Sadly, I didn't get the chance to enlighten a group of children, who had a long debate about whether reins were 'the things that you hold on to'.

If that group of children happen to be reading this – the answer is yes.
