I'm feeling horse-sick, not homesick!

Thursday 25 June 2009

I'm in London for the summer, doing an internship at Horse magazine. It's my dream job – dealing with horsey stuff all day.

I'm also getting the chance to work on my British accent, and I'm doing some travelling around England in my spare time. Perfect!

People have been asking me what I miss most about home, and I'm pretty sure they expect to hear my answer 'my family and friends'.

However, they are sadly mistaken. My immediate answer is always “my horse.”

I cannot believe that I have lasted almost six weeks without riding. The phrase stir-crazy comes to mind.

At home, my horse is my life, and I see him as much as I possibly can.

I even went out and bought him horse treats – from the prestigious Harrods department store in Knightsbridge.

If that's not being spoiled, then I don't know what is.

So at the end of my time here, I have a feeling that the first thing I'll be doing – as soon as the jet lag wears off – is driving to the barn and giving my horse a giant kiss, before going for a nice long hack.

But in the meantime, I might just have to check out some of the riding schools in and around London.
