Growing up, I never thought I would end up with a career in horses.
Like most pony-mad teenagers, when I grew up I wanted to be a vet.
The only other options, I thought, were being a farrier or a groom – neither of which were for me.
Oh, how I was proven wrong!
Now, I have a National diploma in Equine Business Management under my belt.
And that really gave me the bug for equine academia — I'm just going into my third year of an Equine Science degree.
While all my other friends were off to study for their A' levels, they thought I was off to 'play with horses' instead.
My parents thought I had never grown up, and I just wanted an excuse to hang around the stables all day.
They were also scared that I was going to become pigeonholed in a world of endless yard-work and mucking out.
The reality?
I've spent the last few years learning all the fascinating aspects surrounding our equine friends.
My studies taught me that there is so much opportunity within the equine industry. I've discovered all about the business side of the industry, so my future career wasn't going to be all mucking out and filling haynets.
Even though my studies have focused on horses, my university experience has been no different to that to any of my friends who went on to study things like fashion or history.
And I have never been happier.
Though my parents were right in one aspect though.
Secretly, I don't want to grow up!
